  • Overview

    The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities is seeking someone to work as Habilitation Supervisor at our Brooklyn location to coordinate and oversee all services and supports for eligible adult individuals at our Brooklyn location through December 31, 2019.   This position will provide direct supervision and guidance to staff; assist and support individuals, their families and caregivers; and assist individuals in choosing and achieving a life of increasing capability in their community.  The nature of work will include, but is not limited to the following:

    • Supervise direct care staff. Assign work tasks. Respond to problems, complaints, and grievances on informal level.Supervise or prepare individual plans (IP’s). Provide assignments and assistance to designated staff in program implementation. Review documentation to assure accuracy.
    • Provide counseling and support to individuals, with a focus on their adjustment and success in vocational, social environments and Community Employment Preparedness Program (CEPP).
    • Provide verbal and physical, with the least restrictive, crisis intervention as needed or warranted by the situation. Assist in training staff in behavior support strategies.
    • Communicate general information about CCBDD to individuals, staff, and families. Provide line of communication between individuals’ home and AAC to ensure continuity of programming.
    • Provide guidance to staff in effective training techniques related to individuals’ program and services.  Participate in and provide training.Review and monitor information provided by support staff on individuals' progress on a regular basis to assure compliance with IP goals.
    • May participate in vocational and community employment preparedness habilitation instruction as assigned by Habilitation Manager AAC Manager.  Identify and initiate referrals for supportive services to Support Administrators.
    • Coordinate and oversee case conferences. Complete performance appraisals for assigned staff. Provide on-going feedback to enhance staff performance. Devise methods of staff growth and development for management approval.
    • Provide orientation for new staff.  Give and/or apply prescribed oral or topical medications to individuals. Perform necessary medical procedures, when delegated to so by site nurses, as needed.
    • May perform duties of absent staff. May assist with various activities including but not limited to daily living activities and bus loading/unloading.
    • Assisting in administration of the building’s function by overseeing specific tasks as assigned by the Habilitation Manager. These tasks may include overseeing staffing in the building to assure the proper staff to individual ratio in the building among others.
    • Provide input into activity schedules and behavior support strategies.Team with Support Administrators.

    SUPERVISOR DUTIES: Supervise A.P.S., Workshop Specialist, Habilitation Aides, Habilitation Specialists and Habilitation Assistants as assigned.

     

    UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Heavy lifting may be required at times.  Personal care and changing of clothing and other assignments may be required at times. May transport individuals as needed.

    Qualifications

    1.        B.A. Degree in psychology, rehabilitation or special education.

    2.        One year of supervisory experience preferred.

    3.        Three years of experience working with persons who have developmental disabilities.

    4.        Obtain and maintain the state of Ohio certification required for the position.

    5.        Valid state of Ohio driver's license and continued maintenance of excellent driving record.

    6.        Maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification.

    1.        Master's Degree in vocational counseling, rehabilitation, psychology or special education.

    2.        Two years of DD related coursework.

    3.        One year of supervisory experience in comparable work setting desirable.

    4.        Obtain and maintain the state of Ohio certification required for the position.

    5.        Valid state of Ohio driver's license and continued maintenance of excellent driving record.

    6.        Maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification.
