Intermittent, on-call Part-time schedule typically 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. weekdays**


The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities is seeking on-call Substitutes to help supervise and train adults with moderate to profound developmental disabilities in work and habilitative activities to maximize independence.  Adults may exhibit special behavioral, emotional or daily living needs.  Work may be performed in various settings.  Activities can be one-on-one or in groups.  Training can involve social skills, work skills, volunteer skills and various other types of skills and behavior training. 


Work Schedule:  The number of hours worked depends on the number of absences of our permanent staff.  Substitutes typically work at one of our eight (8) adult activity centers located across Cuyahoga County.  However, Subs that are willing to work at multiple locations tend to get the most hours because some sites have more absenteeism than others.   Subs work weekdays between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  ** However, there are some community-based work locations where you could be assigned, and we do have some 2nd shift assignments that may need coverage.


Unusual working conditions: Position may require heavy lifting, toileting, changing of clothing, and other assignments of personal care. Direct and frequent behavior interventions may be required and may include some risk to personal safety.  Close monitoring and supervision of individual(s) may be required and may result in limited program participation with other staff and individuals.  Assignment within the activity centers are made by the site Manager and/or their designees.


Training:  Substitutes are provided on-the-job PAID training. 



  •  Evidence of either a high school diploma or GED certificate of high school equivalence required. 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities certification. 
  • First Aid / CPR certification (all certifications can be obtained upon hire). 
  • Access to reliable transportation is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record may be required depending on assignment. . Most assignments require that you have less than 6 points and less than 3 moving violations.
